Over forty years ago, Bert and his wife, Gertie Hawkes, purchased the property to build a campground. At that time it was a collection of marsh land and bare pasture land. They dammed the marshes, planted all the trees, and landscaped.

If you appreciate men and woman working very hard with little money and making something beautiful and full of nature, then you will understand why it is so important for us to keep it clean… In fact our goal is to make it the cleanest you have ever visited!
